"THE POWER OF A LADY AND HER HORSES"

Description:
Growing up on a farm in the Mtoko area as a child was indeed a wonderful thing. We lived on the crest of a watershed on very sandy soils and tobacco was the farm'smain source of income. Water was always a problem, as it tends to be in sandy soils. We had two tiny boreholes that were located at opposite ends of the farm. The one closest to the house was the cause of much friction between my parents. My Dad felt it was there to support the barns, seedbeds and the cattle. My Mum, far from convinced , felt it should be for her garden and horses. So we grew up with a green garden and very happy horses. My Dad spent countless hours traveling to the seedbeds and filling water carts at the far end of the farm. I remember it remained a constant niggle, but SUCH IS THE POWER OF LADIES that he never won that and many other arguments. This scene was from behind the granite masses near Pine Tree Inn, Juliasdale, and I added the windmill and stable block as a tribute to memories from a special time and place.
