About Me

HELLO, I AM
NICK STOBART
AND THIS S MY STORY
Nick Stobart's story begins on a farm near Salisbury, Rhodesia (now Harare, Zimbabwe), where the red earth and vast skies shaped his childhood. Born to farming parents, he spent his days immersed in the rhythms of rural life, a connection to the land that would later infuse his art. He attended Highlands Primary and then Churchill Boys High School, before excelling at Teachers Training College, graduating with a Diploma in Primary Education and a distinction in teaching practice.
Nick then embarked on a fulfilling career in education, touching the lives of countless students at various government and private schools, eventually becoming headmaster at Kariba Heights Primary School. A life-changing moment occurred while he was teaching at Barwick Primary School: a meeting with Craig Bone, an award winning wildlife artist. Kindling a latent passion, Bone generously gave Nick private art lessons, sparking a creative fire that would redefine his life.

Nick eventually left teaching to take on the responsibilities of running his parents’ farm. He used the quiet lulls between seasons to nurture his burgeoning artistic talent, practicing and refining his skills amidst the very landscapes that inspired him. Tragically, political upheaval in Zimbabwe led to the loss of the farm, forcing Nick to relocate to South Africa. Undeterred, he embraced this new chapter, opening his own art shop and gallery, where he shared his passion by teaching art to adults and children.
The pull of home proved strong, and Nick returned to Zimbabwe in 2012. He taught for three more years before finally taking the exhilarating leap to pursue his art full-time, establishing a studio on his plot in Marondera. He continues to nurture young artists, teaching privately at the Peterhouse group of schools in the afternoons, while his mornings and weekends are dedicated to his own artistic exploration.

Nick and his lovely wife Laura live with their two happy pupps, and his son Sebastian lives in Lusaka, Zambia. Nick's heart beats for Zimbabwe, its wild beauty etched into his soul. He paints with a deep love for his country, striving to capture its essence, particularly the breathtaking Miombo woodland scenes of the highveld. Working in both acrylics and watercolours, his evocative paintings have found homes with collectors across the globe.
